Had to go to the local shopping centre ('mall' for those of a Transatlantic nature) for birthday gift for #1 Chick Friend. Didn't buy one so have to go back tomorrow (need it for the weekend). The sculpture in the picture - the characters are life-sized and mounted on a walkway - is one of the more interesting ones there.

Happy Birthday!
Here in Denmark the flags come out when it's someone's birthday. Today is my friend Lisette's (aka #1 Chick Friend) 33rd. And okay, the flag in the picture has nothing to do with that, but I still thought I'd send her a little greeting. Have a good one, and I'll see you this weekend :-)

Winning Ticket
Now, haven't had it checked yet, but looks as if I'd picked five out of seven on last night's National Lottery draw. Which means, if I've calculated correctly, I will get something like fourteen times my stake back. Now, if only that made up for all the weeks I lost... ;-)
Anyway, if I'm right, well... it's not big money, but there's a local bookstore that will see a few extra sales rung up (and if I'm wrong, well, what the hey... it's for a good purpose). So, fingers crossed.

Early Bloomer
Stand of Eranthis hyemalis I saw today. Saw some last weekend too. Thing is, it's way too early - normally I wouldn't expect them to be blooming until late February or thereabouts. Crazy weather...

Thrills on Wheels
A sight for sore eyes:
Okay, explanation: This is not a bus. It is a mobile gateway to a million universes. Also known as the Bookmobile.

So I'm Late. So What?
No update yesterday - sorry - I was in a 'bleaaargh' mood. Still am, really.
Here's yesterday's pic, though - our local parish church shortly after sunrise, silhouetted dramatically against a wuthering sky (OK, enough purple prose already), as seen from my building.

Sunday Slackin'
Ahh, this is the life: Sleeping in, then just hang in front of the computer guzzling coffee and watching 'Family Guy'. My kind of Sunday.

Slip Slidin'
Went to do a little shopping, and decided to take a short cut home. Along a dirt path. After several days' intermittent rain. And with plenty of sodden leaves lying around too. And no frost to harden the ground.
So now I have to do laundry.
PS: the only injury sustained was to my pride.

Pot Luck
Like most people, I like getting something for nothing. So I participate in a lot of competitions. And yesterday I got a surprise by parcel post: I'd won a comp that a frozen food company ran last autumn! A lovely-lovely (read: almost-too-cutesy) heart-shaped cast-iron casserole pot...
... and four matching ramekins (and yes, that is a lovely word, Jen O)...
... so I'm celebrating my luck by cooking a nice goulash-style casserole dish. I love casseroles.

History Lesson
The twin spires of Roskilde Cathedral.
The oldest parts of the cathedral date back to the 12th century; since 1995 the cathedral has been on Unesco's World Heritage List.
I'll try and get a better picture at a later date.
Brief edit: there's more info (and piccies) to be found here.

Desolation
Admittedly not the best of picture-taking conditions - through the rain-spattered window of a moving bus - but trust me, this recently developed housing area doesn't benefit much even from brilliant sunshine - not what I'd call inviting or inspiring. True, I don't live there (nor do I know anyone who does), but I've passed through it on several occasions. The houses are nicely varied in appearance (and probably cost a fortune to build), but aside from that it's just near-deserted streets, half the area is just one construction site after another, and apart from a school and a kindergarden there are no facilities of any sort, not even a convenience store. Dunno why people want to live there...

Top of the Tree
A bit distant, but still recognisable:
It never ceases to amaze me that such a seemingly huge lump can perch on such a seemingly frail twig. Either the twig is sturdier than it looks, or the bird is lighter. Or both.

Excuse Me?!
Found this rather thought-provoking sign today:
While 'Dansk' simply means 'Danish' and 'Center' means exactly what you'd think it means, the word 'Barf' doesn't exist as such in the Danish language. So naturally I googled the company name and learned that it is some sort of nutritionally correct feeding system for dogs. Well, don't be surprised if the mutts upchuck their meals, is all I say...

Reverse Plastique?
Purpose-built to look old:
This building was actually completed only last year. The former stables on this site burned down three years ago. My guess is it had a preservation order on it, so the new building had to comply with the original's appearance. I think it's residential now, though.

Tissues, Tissues Everywhere

The Joy of Books
Finished this today:Cracking read if you're into science fiction (though I would recommend reading 'Pandora's Star' and 'Judas Unchained' first for a better understanding of the Commonwealth universe). Now all I have to do is wait for the sequel, which hasn't been published yet... though fortunately I have it on good authority (namely the author's own blog) that it may be completed by Easter.

So cold...
It's freezing cold, it's windy, it's snowing intermittently, I just want to go home... and the bloody train is bloody late as per bloody usual.

Day One
The morning after... doing a 2000 pcs jigsaw ('Starry Night' by Vincent van Gogh). We're not making much headway...
